How you can write more quickly

Writing can be very tough and difficult and usually, it takes a lot of time. Today I didn’t have much time left and I knew I needed to write. So I decided to try something new. I used Google Docs to write my article. This article that you are reading right now is made completely with the voice-to-text features in Google Docs. The only thing I had to do is talk and edit a little bit afterward. I opened the document both on my phone and on my laptop so that I could follow what voice-to-text was writing down. If mistakes were made, I did not correct them until the editing phase. Here’s my experience and this is why you should do it too.

The biggest pro of this method is, of course, productivity. You can talk and everything will be written down which will result in more words per minute, as talking is much quicker. Also, you will get less interrupted so the fact that you just talk and don’t think as much as when you write makes you much faster. Another important time-saver is that you do not correct your mistakes. When using voice-to-text the article becomes a free flow of thought, so the work will be much more creative.

When I first started this method I thought I would see a lot of mistakes in the document because voice-to-text wouldn't be able to understand everything I say, however, I found that in fact the voice of text feature is rather accurate and a lot of the things are well understood and written down correctly.

I was also very much surprised by the fact that you could talk quickly and voice-to-text was still be able to understand all the words and write them down just as quickly as you talk.

Even though it might seem that misspelled words are the biggest concern, that is not the case. The biggest problem is when you don’t notice that the software is making the mistakes. For example, when you just keep talking with voice-to-text and the software is making mistakes, you’ll end up with an unclear story and when you read the transcript back you will not…
