Stop Overthinking it. Just get Started

This has been my mantra for quite a while because at times I tend to overthink things then not do anything.

I like to think I’m the ‘do it first, then correct it as I go on’ type of person but at times, the other part visits — The part that overthinks and tries to understand every aspect of something before going in.

As young people today, we have many pressures to succeed. Everyone’s success is in everyone’s faces, we cannot completely avoid it because of social media.

Some people may see it as showing off, while others use it as a motivation.

The difference is, one is triggered to do something about their situation, while the other one just complains, gets envious, and does nothing.

Even if you get motivated by it, it’s still common to overthink things and not get anything done.

The extreme case is called — Analysis Paralysis.

According to Wikipedia,

“Analysis Paralysis describes an individual or group process when overanalyzing or overthinking a situation can cause forward motion or decision-making to become “paralyzed”, meaning that no solution or course of action is decided upon.”

You might come up with the best ideas and have answers to solve difficult problems, but when it’s time to implement, it becomes a problem. You make the best thinkers and critics but hardly start things because you must have thought of all the possible ways something might go wrong. At the end of the day, nothing happens.

Analysis Paralysis is Productivity’s kryptonite.

If you’re this person, here are some steps to take to control your analysis Paralysis

Most of the things I write here are sort of a reminder to myself. I write on topics that I find interesting that I can learn from.

I used to try to make everything perfect before taking action. But as time went on, I started to adopt the “start and make changes as you progress mindset”

FORD 1908 MODEL

Is this what people drive today? Imagine if Henry Ford kept thinking and held himself back because he wanted the perfect car.

Surely, there were tools that he didn’t have initially, but he made do with what he had and created his own line of cars.

As time passed, he created newer models with improvements. That’s the mentality you should have. Be okay with using what you have presently, and as time passes, you would improve on what you already have.

There’s nothing like a perfect product or person. There’s always room for improvement.

It can be fun to want to know everything but remember what happened to the curious cat?

Sometimes, it's best to pay little attention to detail and move.

It took about a month to write mine. If I had kept on questioning different aspects of the book, I wouldn’t have completed the book, even after 3 years.

It’s good to question things, but if you don’t keep it in check and cannot start with what you currently know, you wouldn’t do anything.

I used to get this one too. I would think about how much there is to do — and leave it for the future when I’m in a better situation.

Everything we do in our lives is in a continuum. Nothing happens because of one sudden action. There must have been little signs and inputs from someone over time. When the normal person now sees the effects on a large scale, they think it just came out of the blue.

Nothing comes out of the blue. Everything is related.

I’m saying all this, for you to understand that those things you’re trying to do all at once cannot and would not be possible. You don’t come out one day and say you would start a business and that same day, you will build your app, website, physical store, logo, and online presence.

It all takes time. Don’t bury yourself in all the details. If not you will scare yourself and not start anything.

Rome wasn’t built in a day

Get used to taking one little step at a time. Whenever you feel overwhelmed, it means you’re doing too much.

You don’t have to do everything on the same day. Start with the most important task, and build up from there.

Deadlines are great to get any project finished. Give yourself goals like, “If you can’t complete a project within a certain date, you would have to kill the project”

That way, if what you’re trying to embark on is really important to you, you will complete it.

Decide on the last possible date to get your work completed and you will complete important projects faster.

You don’t have to delay projects or delay doing things that would move you to a new level because of analysis paralysis.

You shouldn’t let it stop you any more. You should have total control
