Misplaced Worship

Through the reading of Tripp’s book, Sex and Money, I am reminded of how far the world has strayed from God’s design of sex. Tripp states that “sexual distortion and sexual addiction do not exist because sex itself is bad but because we have put it in a place that God never intended it to be” (Tripp 88). The world tries to fulfill their sexual desires, but many make do with empty attempts to satisfy their desires. Tripp explains that God created us to worship, and we need to keep that perspective even when discussing the topic of sex.

How do worship and sex go together? God created sex to be something that brought pleasure, but ultimately to bring glory to himself through the context of a marriage relationship. We think that we will be safe if we keep everything in our control and live life the way that we want. But, God wants us to surrender ourselves to him and give him every part of us, including our sexual desires. Keeping God’s intention in mind can help us to shape a healthy lens in which to view our desires and actions.

“Worship (the right ordering of my loves and priorities and living the life God has for me) is a response to God’s beauty that actually leads me to even more of His goodness.” Are we living lives of worship? Or are we living our lives with a me-focused, fearful attitude? Will you surrender everything to God and let him take control?

God doesn’t need our worship, but he wants it. Freedom can be found when we surrender to God and break the chains of fear. What will you worship?
