Crisis Management

When people talks about crisis management, most of people will think of PR firms. Nowadays, even normal people will face crisis. In Marquette campus, the Marquette University Police Department will do such work after any crisis happened. Today, we did a simulation of there is a shooting event happened on Marquette campus in the AMU. At first, we tried to contact with the witness who tweeted the picture of the victim lying on the floor in front of the AMU. Then, we also tried to contact the MUPD staff to get more details. Unfortunately, they cannot provide much information we need. In this case, the time went so fast, when we were thinking one step, there was another tweet or information came out. It is really hard to comfort people. Time is the first thing we have to pay attention during deal with crisis.

The anther difficulty during work is we didn’t have accurate information. The biggest mission of crisis management in this case is informing the public that what is going near them, what’s the result after the crisis resolved and if there is still potential threat around them. To achieve this goal, accurate information we release is necessary. The only information we have is only what presented on the projector. That would be difficult for us to provide information to the public.

The thing resonated me the most is that what we did tonight related tightly to what I learned for the PURE class. The tactics I learned from the class, also were applied in this case.
