Maimonides and BCMS Partner for Healthy Eating Initiative

Nechama Rothberger is a pharmaceutical professional who graduated from the Long Island University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in 2015. Since then, Nechama Rothberger has worked with the Maimonides Medical Center, initially serving as an intern and now serving as a clinical pharmacist with the firm.

Outside of its professional focus, Maimonides provides a variety of advocacy work encouraging young people to consider careers in the medical and STEM fields. This was recently demonstrated through a partnership with the Brownsville Collaborative Middle School (BCMS).

The partnership not only highlights the different careers in these fields, but shows students how various agricultural methods can be used to tackle nutritional shortages and food scarcity. The program that Maimonides and BCMS offered included a trip to an East New York farm run by Taylor Gordon, who works with 50 sustainability-focused communities throughout the area.

The initiative not only encourages students to apply health education skills across their neighborhoods, but also encourages them to undertake cooking and smoothie challenges while also encouraging participation in sustainable food-related activities such as farming.
