I can see my future

I wrote about being able to predict the future and still trying to destroy it, because of how thorny the road to “happiness” might be. I don’t want pain and I don’t want to put it on myself to feel…

Listen to Podcasts While Completing Familiar Tasks

I began listening to podcasts back in 2012 when I started a job with a one-hour driving commute. That’s when I fell in love with podcasts. Instead of dreading my morning commute, I looked forward to my commute because I had the opportunity to learn something new and interesting.

I’ve been a regular podcast listener since.

Today, my commute is much shorter. I no longer have an hour of time in the car every morning to learn from podcasts.

Thankfully, I’ve found other opportunities for podcasts. I realized I don’t need to set aside a full hour of my day to listen to them. With a bit of experimentation, you can fit podcasts into your schedule, too.

You can listen to podcasts while doing routine tasks. These tasks include:

These tasks usually don’t require intense focus. For instance, I can listen to podcasts while sorting or folding laundry. I can listen to podcasts while cooking if I’m cooking a meal I remember how to make. I can listen to podcasts while exercising if I’m completing a familiar workout routine.

If I’m doing something new, such as learning a new workout routine or driving along an unfamiliar route, I need to focus on the new task. I can’t focus on a new task while paying attention to a podcast.

Speaking of driving, I don’t recommend listening to podcasts while driving an unfamiliar route. The podcast will distract you from driving, and you won’t retain much of what you hear. You can, however, listen to podcasts if you’re driving a familiar route, or if you’re driving down a long stretch of highway.

It’s convenient to learn from podcasts because I can listen while doing other things. I love to learn through reading as well. I read several books a month. But it’s hard to read a book and do other things at the same time.

Whether you’re new to podcasts or a seasoned podcaster, try listening to podcasts while doing other things like cooking, cleaning, or exercising. You may fit more podcasting into your schedule.
