Never Chase a Man. Except Down Mountains.

I will admit that my personal experience in the outdoors is dominated by men. In my day to day adventuring, I find myself entirely surrounded by dudes. I hardly notice it anymore, it’s become the norm, and I love it. To be clear, I am not dating these boys. Just very lucky to have found male role models throughout my life who balance leading by example with patient teaching. Chasing the guys pushes my limits, gives me access to gear/advice, and the constant effort of keeping up makes me stronger. I am working to change the gender gap in these spaces, but for now I am grateful for those boys who make the effort to be great guides. The good ones are out there, the guys who love to share some knowledge and patience as you pick up a new activity.

I have some tremendous female role models, but I still spend most of my time outdoors with the bros. Even if you’re intimidated or insecure of your own skills, don’t shy away from the opportunity to have a new adventure bud!

Here are my tips for learning from someone who’s skills you admire.

Women are making waves in the outdoors, and I have learned so much from the amazing ladies in my life. I will strive to be a better role model and a teacher to my fellow women to create a future where female presence is equal.

But I will also keep chasing men down mountains. There’s just no better feeling than finally beating the boys.
