How to Plan a Webinar Your Audience will Watch

During this past year, we realized that we were missing out on a huge opportunity to answer our clients’ questions and open the door for more leads through a marketing tactic we hadn’t tried yet — webinars.

In this blog, we’ll share the tips we’ve learned along the way that will hopefully help you with your webinars in the future!

Once you’ve nailed down the date, it’s time to brainstorm a topic. Deciding on a topic can be difficult, but an effective way to go about it is to think about common questions you get from your clients.

In general, it’s a good idea to pick a topic that’s relatively easy to explain and entertaining. If you try to tackle something too complicated, breaking the subject down in a webinar might be difficult and cause your viewers to disengage if not just leave. Pick something that you have valuable insights on but isn’t too advanced.

The next step to focus on as the webinar approaches is to write a script and turn it into a blog as well.

We’ve found that having two employees engage in a webinar together is more interesting and conversational, so when you write the script, keep in mind that two people could be dialoguing back and forth.

Keep the tone casual and upbeat as you explain the subject. Using an outline with numbers or bullets is helpful because it sections different parts clearly and allows the speakers to deviate from just reading the script.

In addition to a script, creating a blog to publish after the webinar is helpful for people who missed the live video or for anyone who wants to review the material again.

Usually, we modify and expand the script into a blog, and then we share it on Facebook the day after the webinar.

Even though you’ll have the script to glance at during the webinar, it’s crucial to practice explaining the information at least four to five times before the real thing. This allows the two speakers to develop a rhythm of bouncing off each other, so that the presentation is seamless and professional.

Also, this can help refine the script, because as you read through it aloud, you may find errors or parts that sound awkward to read aloud.

Be sure to keep the following tips in mind as you prepare for the big day:

If the speakers practice these techniques, they’ll have a better chance of successfully implementing them during the actual webinar.

We like to add a raffle at the end of our webinar to boost the incentive to tune in. Whether it’s a gift card or discount on services, promoting a raffle in your social media posts and email blast can build excitement.

The day of the webinar be sure to check off the following items from your list before transitioning into performance mode.

Now that the majority of prep is completed and you’ve thoroughly promoted the event, you can check the lightning and make sure your technology is working (laptop is charged, sound is working, etc.).

When it’s time to start, click “Go Live” on your Facebook page and the rest will be instinct. Welcome your audience and deliver the content as you’ve practiced.

Before you wrap up the webinar, be sure to thank everyone and ask for future topic suggestions. Also, remember to post the blog the next day for people to review the information again.
